TURA, OCT 22: Six suspected United Liberation Front (ULFA) of Asom militants were arrested last night in West Garo hills bordering neighbouring Goalpara district of Assam. The militants were held in a joint army and police operation between Rabhagre Rongsai and Pedaldoba, near Tikrikilla, about 135 km from Tura.
Police claimed that they had inputs about the movement of ULFA militants in the area and a vigil was setup by security forces at Pedaldoba around 11:45 pm last night. Police claimed that the rebels tried to flee to the neighbouring jungle, when they noticed the army checkpoint.
“The Army and the police team managed to arrest six suspected ULFA militants. However we have not found any identification proof”, said Bruno Sangma, additional superintendent of police, West Garo Hills.
Police said the security agencies managed to arrest while they made advances to fire upon them.
The ULFA militants were moving in a Tata Nano car towards Lakhipur area in Goalpara district of Assam.
On interrogation they have confessed their involvement with ULFA and about their plan to carry out extortion in Goalpara. Six 9 mm pistol, 20 live rounds of 9 mm, two hand grenades, 20 rounds of 7.65 mm were held from their possession.
The militants have been identified as – Suraj Hajong, 22, Hiran Rabha, 17, Vikas Rabha, 20, Mingson Rabha, 20, Elam Rabha, 60, Korton Rabha, 22.
Sangma informed that all the cadres were from Pedaldoba village under Tikrikilla Police Station.
Police have registered a case under section 25 (1) (a) and Arms Act. “They will be produced in the CJM court tomorrow”, said Sangma.- By Our Reporter
