UDP-HSPDP to work together for LS, ADC polls, RDA to announce candidate for Shillong constituency soon

The United Democratic Party (UDP) and Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Tuesday decided to work together as Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) for the upcoming Lok Sabha and ADC elections.

Speaking to reporters, RDA chairman and UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh said, “Today, we have started the initiation of discussion with regards to the MP election and the MDC elections. We have decided that we will be fighting the upcoming MP election and MDC election together.”

Lyngdoh however said that the RDA will again meet shortly to decide on the joint candidate for the Shillong parliamentary constituency.

“Members have asked for a day or two so very soon we will be sitting again and we would like to close also as far as the candidate of RDA,” he added.

Stating that the stage to announce a candidate has not come yet, the RDA chairman said, “We are still in the process of consultation and other things where we have discussed and the same will be discussed again in the next meeting.”

 Lyngdoh said there are no aspirants as far as the RDA is concerned.

“We have not discussed any particular name as far as RDA is concerned but we will come out with the name at the right time, which we will be taking up in the next meeting very soon,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lyngdoh also informed that six members from HSPDP and five members from UDP have been co-opted as members of RDA. Now, the strength of the alliance is 15.
