SHILLONG, SEP 2: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday said the state government will ensure the arrest of people involved in running a “High Level” to facilitate illegal movement of trucks, if names are being provided.
Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said he came to know about the high level only from the media but he feels that the media should verify and find out who this high level is.
“Name the people in the High Level so that we will get them arrested,” he said.
“However, I feel if you are making allegations the same should be substantiated by evidence so that the government can take immediate action against such illegalities,” Tynsong said.
He informed that the transport department had not only come up with an order but had also deployed enforcement inspectors at Umiam bridge to check and take action against overloading trucks.
Tynsong said, trucks carrying more than 20 metric tons are not allowed to ply as they may be a threat to the lifespan of the existing bridge.
