SHILLONG, MAR 26: In what could only be described as tragic and mysterious, a two and half years’ old baby girl died after she was given the regular DPT injection at the Sohra’s Community Health Centre –CHC- on Wednesday night. The parents of the baby have lodged an FIR and the state government has immediately order and investigation.
The baby was the second child of Baiamonlang Laloo and Wanlambor Kharumnuid, residents of Saitsohpen village under Sohra Sub-division in East Khasi Hills District.
Based on the FIR by the family members, a post mortem examination was conducted on the deceased baby at the Shillong Civil hospital on Thursday.
“We had taken our girl child for the second dose of DPT injection at the Sohra CHC at around 12 pm yesterday. However, after an hour or so the baby started becoming weak and she passed away at around 11 pm,” a heartbroken Kharumnuid told reporters.
Kharumnuid, however, informed that his child has been a healthy baby since the day she was born. He said, “Even before taking her for injection, she was fine and showed no symptoms that she was not keeping well.”
The aggrieved father further informed that the matter was also intimidated to the hospital authority but the doctor only said that the death of the child is a case of “heart-failed” but failed to give them the actual fact.
Informing that an FIR was also lodged with the Sohra police, Kharumnuid said, “We want to know the real cause that led to the death of our baby,” adding “Because the body of my daughter was also found to with bruises after her death.”
Demanding that the truth should be told, Kharumnuid said the authorities concern should ensure that such alleged negligence is not repeated.
Meghalaya health minister AL Hek also came to meet the family members in the Shillong Civil hospital when they were waiting for the post mortem examination to be completed.
Speaking to reporters, Hek said he has immediately ordered for an investigation into the incident.” He informed that as of now nothing can be rule out but the department would wait for the investigation to complete and accordingly take action. – By Our Reporter
