Two militants surrender

SHILLONG, OCT 9: Two militant belonging to the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) surrendered before the Meghalaya police  in East Garo hills district on Thursday.

“The two militants have surrendered before the police,” East Garo hills SP Davis Marak informed..

The two have been identified as K Rabha (21) alias Nobo of the ULFA and Ratan Marak (24) alias Okkaru of the GNLA.

Rabha hails from a village under Kokrajhar in Assam, Marak is a resident of North Garo Hills District.

Rabha was having close association with the GNLA.

According to police, the two militants were working under the area commander of the GNLA Jimmy Momin.

Earlier, six militants of the GNLA also surrendered before the police along with their arms and weapons.

Marak said the reason behind the surrender of militants is because of the consistent pressure mounted by the Meghalaya police by launching anti-insurgent operations.

Police have also destroyed many camps, especially those set up by the GNLA recently.

“We have busted several camps during the operations displacing many militants operating in the region,” Marak informed.  He, however, appealed to the misguided youths in the region to come forward and take advantage of the offer to come over ground made by the state government to ensure lasting peace in the region.- By Our Reporter
