Custom sleuths arrested two persons and seized Methamphetamine (WY) tablets worth Rs 2.23 crore.
On receipt of specific information, Officers of Hqrs Preventive, Customs, NER, Shillong rushed to Silchar-Jiribam Road on April 29 and kept surveillance for a few hours for suspects carrying a drug consignment, a statement said on Thursday.
The Officers were able to successfully apprehend two persons from the Kashipur area at Silchar-Jiribam Road and seized 2.270 Kgs of Methamphetamine (WY) tablets from their possession valued at Rs 2.23 Crores, it said.
The two accused were arrested under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985 and have been remanded to judicial custody. Further Investigation into the case is under progress.
The statement said that Customs remains committed to combating all types of cross border crime involving smuggling of Gold, Cigarettes, drugs and narcotics, wild life articles, Fake Indian Currency Notes, import-export frauds and trade based money laundering. Customs works in close partnership with various other law enforcement agencies.
