SHILLONG, JAN 30: The “suicide claim” of the police regarding the death of Patharkhmah outpost officer-in-charge Pearlystone Joshua Marbaniang has literally been tossed out of the window with the late police officer’s wife Chaleth Pyngrope filing an FIR at the Nongpoh police station on Friday.
Marbaniang, posted as officer-in-charge of Patharkhmah outpost in Ri Bhoi district, was found critically injured with a gunshot on his head in his official quarter on January 24 and later succumbed to the injuries.
Police claimed that Marbaniang had allegedly shot himself with his service revolver.
However relatives of Marbaniang, including his wife, refused to buy police’s claim into the death of the police officer.
What has given rise to the suspicion about Marbaniang committing suicide is that on that fateful day he had detained over 30 trucks which carried coal illegally to Assam via Mairang-Azara road, just hours before his death.
Marbaniang’s death has cast a shadow over the “suicide claim” and there are those who strongly believes that investigation must be initiated to ascertain the cop’s death.
On Friday Chaleth Pyngrope said, “We have submitted the FIR with the police station.” She refused to accept that her husband’s death was a case of suicide..
Pyngrope’s cousin, MLA David Nongrum said that now an FIR has been filed, let investigation be taken up. He said, “We cannot accept that he (Marbaniang) can commit suicide by shooting himself from such an angle.”
Meanwhile, the Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) has also demanded immediately investigation by the CBI)into what it called the alleged “mysterious death” of Marbaniang.- By Our Reporter
