SHILLONG, JULY 17: The magisterial inquiry probing the molestation of a mentally challenged girl that led to the Tura mob carnage on June 21 has sought for a week extension to complete the probe.
West Garo hills deputy commissioner Pravin Bakshi on Wednesday informed that the inquiry headed by the additional district magistrate was given one month’s time to submit its report on the molestation allegedly by the migrant labourers, but the magistrate has requested for an extension of a week time as many people were not able to depose before the commission . A report of the case also has to be compiled.
The entire incident started in Wadanang area of Tura on June 21 when a girl was allegedly molested by migrant workers following which violence erupted in Tura and many shops and vehicles were ransacked. One person also died in the mob frenzy.
Police arrested two of those who had been accused of molestation and as they were minors they are now kept in juvenile are home at Shillong and they will be produced before the juvenile justice board soon.
The incident had rocked Garo hills and the entire five districts saw a gradual degeneration of law and order. However, now normalcy is gradually limping back.- By Our Reporter
