TURA, JUNE 23: The Tura mob fury victim who died has been identified as forty years old Akabbar Ali Sk, son of Azimuddin, from Teldhala village in Mancachar, Assam.
The Meghalaya government paid an ex-gratia payment of Rs 3 lakh to the deceased wife Asia Khatun. West Garo hills deputy commissioner Pravin Bakshi said, “The amount was handed over by the West Garo Hills additional district magistrate, ZJ Sangma in the presence of Dadenggre SDPO (sub divisional police officer), Dr. Raghavendra.” He also added that though there were about 200 people to receive the body but they were calm. Two additional SPs from Assam were also present.
On the rumour of the alleged rape of the eighteen years old mentally challenged girl that led to the mob frenzy killing Akabaar, Bakshi confirmed medical report established that the girl was not raped, however, according to sources, she was allegedly molested.
Bakshi also also said that the district administration is closely monitoring the situation and if it improves further, curfew will be relaxed for longer hours.He also informed that orders have been issued to all filling stations in the district for rationing of petrol. He said, “Private vehicle owners will be allowed only 5 litres at one time.” Staffs of the supply branch have been deputed to monitor the market prices and assess the stock of all essential items.- By Our Reporter
