The Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills Jagdish Chelani inaugurated the Three Day Tura Industrial Fair 3.0 (TIF), at Matchakolgre LP School Playground, New Tura on 23th February, 2024. The Annual District Level Industrial Fair is being organized by the District Commerce and Industries Centre, Tura in order to encourage and promote the promising local entrepreneurs of the region and market their products.
Speaking during the inaugural function, the Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani said that he is impressed by the dedication and hard work and the lovely design with the valentine’s day theme which has created an exquisite aura of cheerfulness for the people. Further, he also appreciated the DCIC staff for their achievement in enrolling 2300 applications for PM Vishwakarma Scheme in the district.
Stating that Tura is still in nascent economy, he said that more needs to be done for promoting local industries and utilizing this platform for entrepreneurs to network with other entrepreneurs and take it to greater heights in future. He also mentioned that Garo Hills has a high agriculture economy zone and with the intervention of the government many new agriculture infrastructure is coming up in the region and industries play a vital role in improving the quality and quantity of the products available in the area.
While delivering the keynote address, the General Manager, District Commerce and Industries Centre (DCIC), Tura Don Felicient R Marak informed that the department is organizing the Tura Industrial Fair which has been renamed from the Annual District Level Industrial Exhibition and has the mandate to promote industries in respective districts. He further mentioned that industries are the backbone of progress driving economic growth, creating job opportunities and giving rise to innovations and in order to fulfill this great task DCIC is engaged in numerous activities related to promoting industries right from organizing, awareness and motivation programmes to start up entrepreneur spirit. Moreover, he said that the department provides training and capacity building programmes for tailoring, carpentry, bamboo craft, steel fabrication, etc to scientific method of apiculture, and also provides financial support through financial linkages and marketing support for sustainability of the entrepreneurs.
Other Departments such as Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Sericulture and Weaving, Fishery, Community of Home Science, etc, participated, including 47 Local Entrepreneurs from the Garo Hills region have participated and displayed their products for sale ranging from locally available different food items, various wooden crafts and artefacts, cane and bamboo items, jewelry items, etc including products from weaving and handloom like Dakmandas and other accessories. Special attraction of the event will be the Live music shows by Meghalaya Grassroots Music Programme (MGMP) and Kids Zone.
Heads of departments, officers and staff of DCIC, local artisans and people of the area were present during the function.
The Tura Industrial Fair 3.0 will be open till 15th February, 2024 and all are invited to visit the Fair at Matchakolgre LP School Playground, Tura.
