SHILLONG,APR 28: The Agriculture department in collaboration with the National Institute of Plant Health Management, Hyderabad (NIPHM) organized training cum visit programme as part of the ongoing project on Agro-Ecosystem Analysis – On-farm production of bio-control agents and bio-pesticides.
The programme was first conducted at IATC, Upper Shillong on April 26 in the presence of Dr. Vijaya Lakshmi, Director, Health Plant Management, Dr. Girish Kumar, Assistant Director, PHM and Dr. N. Lavanya, Scientific Officer. The NIPHM officials interacted with a group of trained farmers from East Khasi hills district and deliberated on key issues related to Plant Health Management.
The project emphasized on the use of safer plant protection measures such as bio-agents and bio-pesticides so as to limit the use of chemical pesticides for safe crop production. Several plant protection equipment such as light traps, designed and supplied by the Institute were distributed to the farmers. Similar training programme was also conducted at Jowai and Mairang on April 27th and 28th respectively.-By Our Reporter
