SHILLONG, JAN 15: As part of its preparedness for the upcoming Assembly Elections, 2018, the Deputy Commissioner (Election), South West Garo Hills, has held a series of meetings, briefings and trainings for concerned ROs, AROs, Sector Officers, police personnel and polling personnel as well as the political parties of the district since the first week of January this year.
To ensure that the political parties and its representatives are well versed with the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trial (VVPAT) awareness cum hands on training was conducted for the representatives of political parties after the handing over of the final publication of photo electoral rolls last week. The training was attended by the representatives of major political parties including BJP, NPP, INC and UDP. Likewise further trainings would also be conducted for the polling agents of the respective political parties for which the District Election Officer has requested the political parties to submit the list of names of their agents well in advance.
First round of trainings has also been conducted for sector officers and polling personnel on poll procedures and use of EVM and VVPAT last week, while second round of training would commence later this week.
As the district gears up for the elections, various teams for ensuring smooth conduct of election, including Flying Squads, Accounting Teams, Static Surveillance Teams(SSTs), Video Surveillance Teams (VSTs), Video Viewing Teams (VVTs) and Media Certification & Monitoring Committee (MCMC) have been constituted and trainings for these teams are being conducted accordingly.
On Saturday last, mandatory training for sector officers, flying squads and video surveillance teams was conducted wherein the Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Shri Cyril V.D. Diengdoh briefed the members on their respective roles and responsibilities.
Further, a similar training for Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Teams on how to make seizures, was also conducted at Ampati Police Station on Monday.
