SHILLONG, NOV 25: The GNLA secretary Dalbin N Marak, alias Ammika was arrested by the police from a village in East Garo hills district on Sunday evening. Police said that the GNLA top leader was arrested while was travelling from Tura in West Garo Hills district to Williamnagar on his bike.
Police said Marak had come to Williamnagar to meet a close aide Pinku Ch Marak, from whose residence the outfit’s round seal notepads of the general secretary and vice chairman of the GNLA were also seized.
The arrest came four weeks after the state police suffered one of its biggest casualties in its fight against militancy when militants killed five policemen in an ambush in at a remote Kolapara village in Baghmara, the district headquarters of South Garo hills earlier. – By Our Reporter
