BANGALORE, APRIL 26: Rangdajied United Football Club is in the cusp of making history by qualifying for the prestigious I-League next season. They have one more battle to fight against the black-and-white brigade of Mohammedan Sporting Club on Saturday, and a win against the team that has already qualified for the premier football league of the country will ensure they become the second team to do so.
The second division I-league has been a long drawn out qualification campaign with many a battle fought between the aspiring teams from across the country. During the course of the campaign, Rangdajied have been served well by the members of its squad. Here’s who’s who of the Shillong-based outfit:
Restom Khriam is the captain of the club. He has been with the club for the past six years and is a midfielder.
Nigerian recruit of the club B. Babatunde Ayomide, has been the star striker of the club and has scored 17 goals in the preliminary round and final round so far. He has
been with the club for the past two seasons and was roped in from ONGC.
His striking companion is Shin Hojun of South Korean who has so far scored eight goals. He joined the club from Mohammedan Sporting.
Another Nigerian En Loveday Okechukwu is a defender and has been with the club for past four years. Prior to joining Rangdajied, he had played for Malabar Club.
Former East Bengal defender Poibiang Pohshna has been with the club for three seasons and is a boy from Jowai.
Stopper Amblistar Sunn has been with the club for the past five years. He is the guy who saved his team the blushes during their first match of the second leg against Bhawanipur by denying Bareeto two goals.
Nigerian striker Jerebe Kelechi has been with the club for the past couple of seasons and was roped in from Josco Club of Goa. He has a goal to his credit.
Banshari Sunn has been with the squad for three seasons. He earlier played for Nangkiew Irat. He plays in the mid-field.
Negen Tamang, who joined the club about three years back, is a midfielder and joined the team from Denzoing Boys. He has two goals to his credit.
The boy from Khliehriat Dapbor Bareh is the left back of the club and has been in the squad for half a decade now.
The new man in the club is E. Abocha Singh, who joined this season from a Manipur club. He has strengthened the mid-field department of the club.
Another midfielder who has been with the club for past three years is Bhola Prashad, who joined the club from ONGC.
Thomash Saikhom, is a right back of the club who joined the club last year.
Under the bar are Surjay K. Pariyar, Shambuh Mistry and Amit Saha.
Surjay, who hails from Sikkim, has been with the team for past three years. Former Mohammedan Sporting custodian Shambhu joined the club this season along with Amit Saha.
Other squad members are Pynshongdor Shadap, Ericson Lyngdoh, Joy M Kharaswa, Manitongbi Singh and Hiralal Chettri.
Subimul Dhar is the head coach with Khlain Syiemlieh assisting him. Doius Lapasam is the goalkeeping coach, Shaiwul Malngiang is the manager and Sanderson Kharbyngar the club’s physiotherapist. (By Suraj Joshi)
