SHILLONG,MAR 3: Two times MDC Teilinia Thankhiewis all set to become the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) chairperson as the All Regional Party Alliance (ARPA) has nominate her as their candidate for the post on Monday. Thangkhiew will also be the first woman chairperson of KHADC since it was founded.
The ARPA which is a conglomeration of the Hills State People’s Democratic Party with seven MDCs, United Democratic Party (UDP) with six MDCs and Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) with four MDCs is all set to form the next executive committee in KHADC.
Thangkhiew is the HSPDP MDC. She told reporters after the decision to put her as the ARPA candidate for the chairperson post, , “I am humbled because the party and the alliance partner have the confidence in me to be the chairperson”.
The ARPA’s KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) nominee Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, meanwhile, informed that the HSPDP-KHNAM and UDP stands committed to work together. His statement assumed significance after an Independent MDC deserted the ARPA as he was not offered the Executive Member (EM) post the soon to be formed KHADC executive committee.
Basaiawmoit said that the Independent had extended an unconditional support but eventually backtrack and has nothing to do with any deal. . He asserted, “We are firm that the alliance is united and will prove our strength through the election to the chairperson post.” He also said there is no threat of poaching into the ARPA. – By Our Reporter
