SHILLONG, MAR 14: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) chief Pynshngain N Syiem today decided to accept the request of members that he should continue as the chief executive member.
The matter was discussed during the meeting of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) parliamentary party held in the city here on Wednesdayafter Syiem had recently expressed his desire to quit the top post.
“The meeting has unanimously decided to repose their confident on me as the Parliamentary Party leader and also requested me not to relieve the post of the CEM,” Syiem told reporters after the meeting.
Syiem, who has been serving as CEM for the past three years, said that he had thought of stepping down as Council’s chief as he wanted to concentrate more on strengthening the position of the PDF as a party.
Meanwhile, the KHADC chief also informed that he would clarify on the implementation of the Rs 32 crore sanctioned by the Centre government for the year 2017-18 in the upcoming Council’s budget session to be held on March 20.
It may be mentioned the MDCs of the UDP, HSPDP and Congress had recently expressed strong opposition against the chief executive member over the implementation of the centre’s special assistance grant.
They have alleged that the CEM of abusing his power by allotting the work orders for implementation of schemes under the special assistance grant to PDF candidates for the just concluded Assembly polls.
“I will clarify on this but to say that the PDF has misused the fund by allotting work orders to its candidates for the just concluded Assembly polls is totally wrong,” Syiem stated.
