SHILLONG, AUG 28: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has suspended the Syiem (chief) of Hima Sohra Freeman Sing Syiem pending the inquiry on his alleged involvement in issuing land pattas to non-tribals.
Informing this here on Tuesday, KHADC chief Hispreaching Son Shylla said, “We have decided to suspend the Syiem of Hima Sohra pending the inquiry into the allegations against him.”
Asked, Shylla said that the inquiry headed by a senior official of the Council has been asked to submit the report on the matter within a month’s time.
“However, if the report found that he (syiem) is not guilty of the charges, he will be reinstated as the Syiem of the Hima,” he added.
According to Shylla, the decision to set up the inquiry was following complaints received by the Council that the Syiem have issued land pattas to the non-indigenous residents of Majai village.
He said that the former executive member incharge Elaka had taken up the matter with the previous executive committee led by PN Syiem but no action was taken on this regard.
