Syiem may contest from Congress: Shylla

SHILLONG, JULY 20: KHADC chief Hispreaching Son Shylla today alleged that People Democratic Front (PDF) chairman Pynshngain N Syiem may contest the upcoming bye-election in Ranikor constituency from the Congress party.

“It seems that he (Syiem) is going to contest from the Congress party in the upcoming Ranikor by poll,” Shylla told reporters while criticizing the PDA members for abstaining the election of the Council’s deputy chairman post held here on Friday.

The PDF and Congress are part of the opposition People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

Accusing the Congress of instigating such move, Shylla said, “This (absence of opposition members) is the political strategy adopted by the Congress to create unnecessary problems in the council, which is not acceptable.”

The KHADC chief, who is leading the ruling Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance (KHDA)-led executive committee, said that this shows that the PDA and PDF are being controlled by the Congress.

“I thought that the PDF had invited the Congress to support the PDA but here it clearly shows that the PDF is being controlled by the Congress,” he said.

Shylla further alleged that very soon three members of the PDF will also be joining the Congress while he also pointed out that it is also not clear who is the parliamentary party leader of the PDF since the party had proposed candidate for the CEM post who is not a PP leader.

Meanwhile, he also said that there was a desperate attempt by the PDA to poach members of the KHDA by offering them the post of CEM.
