SHILLONG, JULY 13: Newly elected KHADC chief Hispreaching Son Shylla has accused the former chief executive member Pynshngain N Syiem of taking 20 percent commission out of the Rs 28 crore which was allegedly diverted for Council’s assets.
“Some of the contractors have told us that they have to give the former CEM (Syiem) 20 percent commission, which means that up to Rs 5 crore he is getting out of the Rs 28 crore,” Shylla said while addressing in the House after being elected to the CEM post here on Friday.
The NPP member from Nongkrem was declared elected as the new CEM of the Council by the Pro-tem Chairman Teilinia Thangkhiew after the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) candidate Grace Mary Kharpuri failed to turn up during the election without withdrawing her candidature.
Shylla however alleged that the absence of the opponent was a ploy of the PDA led by the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) as they feared that if she (Kharpuri) wins, she would ask for a CBI probe into the misappropriation of fund by the former CEM, who is also PDF chairman.
“Syiem had chosen Kharpuri (whom he had suspended and drop as EM) for the post of CEM. But she instead had assured that if she is being elected to the post, she would definitely seek a CBI inquiry into the matter, which means against her own leader,” he said.
It may be mentioned here that the members had earlier alleged Syiem of misusing the Rs 28 crore out of Rs 32 crore sanctioned by the Centre by diverting it for council’s assets instead of giving it for development of different MDC constituencies.
On the other hand, Shylla assured that new executive committee will not ask for any commission.
Attacking Syiem on his decision to contest the Ranikor bye-election, he said, “For the love of money and power he (Syiem) had even gone to the UDP (for their support) but the UDP will not listen to him because they know who this man is.”
The election to the CEM post scheduled to be held on Thursday, had to be postponed till today after the sudden resignation of KHADC chairman LG Nongsiej.
Terming the move of the former chairman as shameless, Shylla demanded Nongsiej to clarify as to what was exigency of his resignation which has led to the rescheduling of the election.
“If he (Nongsiej) fails to clarify on this, I think we will oppose against his coming to attend the House keeping in mind that the chairman is also the custodian of the Council,” he said.
