SHILLONG, MAY 6: Caught in a dilemma, the students of the CMJ University have petitioned to the Meghalaya government to repeal Governor RS Mooshahary’s order that led to the closing down of the institute asking to allow the university to conduct the bachelor and master degrees examination schedule to be held from May 24.
Mooshahary- who is the visitor of the university- had recently filed an FIR against the CMJ University for fraud in awarding degrees which he said is not recognized. He had also written to the CMJ University authority saying that there functioning is flawed.
The CID had recently locked the university even as it is investigating the case while the CMJ University chancellor CM Jha is reportedly in Bihar.
In a letter to the Meghalaya principal secretary in-charge of education, the students said, “We request that the degrees or certificates awarded or to be awarded to the bachelors and masters degrees should be recognized by the state government and devise a solution within one week to ensure that our studies are not hampered.”
Saying that it is disheartening to hear that the Visitor had asked the university to revoke and withdraw all the degrees and certificates issued to its students, the students said, “We are shocked and dismayed as the said ruling signifies a bleak future for us.”
The students said that they are confused after the CMJ Univesity got caught in the whole controversy leading to the closure and also to derecognize the degrees issued by it. The students said, “We were informed by the university authorities that the ruling applies only to M.Phil and Ph.D degrees while media reports tell otherwise.”.
The students also claims that the entire process of admission, qualification of the faculty members, classes and examinations conducted for the bachelors and masters degrees by the CMJ University has so far been without doubts of any foul-play and said, “We can safely say that everything was functioning smoothly like any other recognized universities but the controversy has put a big question mark on our future.”
The students said that they therefore requested the state government to act on their petition at the earliest so that their studies and future is not hampered.- By Our Reporter
