SHILLONG, OCT 19: After thirteen years the prestigious U-17 Boy’s Subroto Cup football title is coming back to Meghalaya after the Om Roy Memorial school convincingly defeated the Assam based Magurmari High School of Kokrajhar by 4-0 goal in the final at the Ambedkar stadium in New Delhi on Saturday.
In 1978, St. Anthony’s School of Shillong had clinched the Subroto Cup followed by Government Boys Higher Secondary School in 1999. After a hiatus of thirteen years, Om Roy Memorial School clinched the title of the U-17 Boys 54th Subroto Cup football on Saturday bringing cheers to thousands of football loving people in Meghalaya.
For the Meghalaya based school, Mebanshan Suting scored the opening goal the 35 minutes followed by Nongrud Jefforson (46th min), Kynter Lenningston (61st min) and Kurbah Michaelson (69th min).
The icing in the cake of this great win is the school’s Mebanshan Suting, who scored seven goals in the tournament, took home the Best Player award while Banshanlang Sten was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper. The duo was given a laptop, Adidas boots, along with a cash prize of Rs. 20,000 each.
The school coach Jeffery Warlarpih was adjudged as the Best Coach. He was given a cash reward of Rs. 25,000. – By Our Reporter
