SHILLONG, JAN 3: The Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA) on Thursday decided to stage a 24-hour cease work on January 11 – 12 to protest the assault on a doctor in the Garo hills. The cease work will start from 10 a.m. of January 11 to 10 a.m. of January 12. The association will also limit the work of its members between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. from January 12 onwards
“The 24 hour cease work and the restricted working hours are a mark of protest against the failure of the government to take action against the criminals involved in the assault of Dr. Apchan A Sangma, Medical & Health Officer of Mahendraganj CHC, and the subsequent looting” said MMSA secretary A War.
The association also demanded adequate security for medical staff working in the Garo hills.
The MMSA agitation comes in the wake of the incident involving a group of 10-odd Bangladeshi miscreants who forcibly entered the Mahendraganj Community Health Centre and assaulted a doctor. The miscreants also looted the place, decamping with Rs 7,000 that included gold ornaments and a mobile phone. (By Our Reporter)
