When asked, Sangma said that law and order is one of the areas where the state government has been focusing over the years and this is linked to the internal security apparatus which is already in place.
“Therefore all concerned including the state police have been assigned with responsibility to ensure that the law and order is in place, there should not be any situation which deters or discourage people from participating in the Independence Day celebration,” he asserted.
In the past militant outfits operating from across the international border like the HNLC have been calling for bandhs to boycott the Independence Day celebration.
Stating that the state is monitoring the situation on a daily basis, the CM said, “Our security agencies are capable of dealing with such situation despite the attempt by anti-national elements to disrupt the celebration especially with the people defying their calls.”
