SHILLONG, JAN 28: Former Meghalaya minister and Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee-MPCC- vice president KK Dkhar has decided to quit from his party position saying one of the reasons for putting his papers is the ‘infighting among the leaders.’
“Infighting among the senior leaders has totally disillusioned me. I have decided to resign from the post of vice president of the MPCC after a careful thought and understanding,” Dkhar said in his resignation letter submitted to the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president DD Lapang yesterday.
Dkhar said, “The party leadership, now, it seemed, has lost its influence and the will to lead.”
Dkhar, also a former minister in charge Border Areas Development and a two times legislator and MDC from Nongskhen constituency, also claimed that the party no longer has the trust and confidence of many of its members especially at the grass root level.
Alleging that party at present is run solely by ‘individuals’, Dkhar said, “They don’t care nothing about the party, its policies and ideals,” adding “There is lack of accountability and transparency and it is evident that most of the leaders are now concerned with their personal agendas and personal gains.”
The senior leader, who was also elected as a member of the All India Congress Party (AICC) in 2001, said, this greatly, reflects the failure of the party leadership to address the problem in a flexible and just manner.
Observing that everything has changed in the last few years, Dkhar said, “The party in our state is no longer as it was before. The party, which at one time based its functions on the principles of efficiency, legitimacy and consensus, no longer exist.”- By Our Reporter
