Cong sings Assam tune

SHILLONG, OCT 29: Opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) on Saturday said the confidence of the ruling Congress that it will come back to power in 2018 state elections is like singing the same tune by the former Congress Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi. “It is looks really funny to me (about Congress’s confidence),” UDP senior leader Bindo M Lanong said while saying that former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi just few days before the polls has expressed confidence that Congress will return back to power.

He added, “I am not surprise at all because it seems the Congress in Meghalaya is just simply singing the same chorus.”

Stating that that Gogoi found his “waterloo” after the BJP swept power in Assam, Lanong wondered if Congress in the state with its ‘mischiefs’ and ‘misdeeds’ will ever receive the support from the public, whom he thinks are not blind.

The former deputy chief minister said though pre-poll alliance is yet to be reached, the UDP however aims at unifying the non-Congress political parties to fight together and defeat the ruling Congress in the state.

In as far as the seat arrangement is concerned, he said, there will of course be discussion on the issue.

UDP vice president Alantry F Dkhar added that ‘politics is the art of the possible’ as there is nothing impossible in politics.

Lanong on the other hand said that the issue of pre-poll alliance will be addressed at the right time and a decision will accordingly be taken.-By Our Reporter
