SHILLONG, NOV 2: National president of the BJP Mahila Morcha Vaneathi Srinivasan on Wednesday asserted the need for the party to field more women candidates for the upcoming 2023 Assembly elections in matrilineal Meghalaya.
Speaking to media persons on her maiden visit to the state, Srinivasan said she had requested the BJP state unit to give more seats to women candidates.
“There are a lot of aspiring candidates also in Meghalaya Mahila Morcha and the party will help them on how to reach out to the people, on how to carry out the good works of the state government as well as the central government,” she said.
Srinivasan said that the objective of her visit to the state was to see the functioning of the Mahila Morcha in Meghalaya and to get a first hand report on the issues faced by the members of Mahila Morcha across the state.
Srinivasan has also encouraged the office bearers on how to prepare for the coming Assembly election and how the Mahila Morcha could help the state unit in getting good results.
“In the meeting, we discussed how we can bring more women into the party and how we can develop them as leaders to serve the people by taking part in the upcoming 2023 election” said Srinivasan.
Srinivasan informed that many members of the Mahila Morcha have expressed their hope that the BJP being the nationalist political party is serving better to the people despite the differences in the backgrounds or the languages or the diversity in respect of the region or the language or the religion.
She added that as Indians that oneness has to be that character of the unity, the descendants of the belongingness has to be imported in the minds of the people and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been given many schemes particularly for the empowerment of women.
“In the last 8 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has afflicted the life of women and how he has transformed the growth of women’s life by way of giving them the support, whether it is in support or the social status and recently we have a tribal woman as the president of the country” she added.
