SHILLONG, OCT 4: Criticising the opposition Meghalaya Parliamentary Forum (MPA) members for disrupting the proceeding on the first day of the five-day Meghalaya assembly autumn session on Friday, deputy chief minister Roytre Christopher Laloo accused them of trying to force the speaker to violate the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Meghalaya Assembly.
Laloo, who is also the spokesperson for the Congress-led MUA II coalition government said, “Opposition are trying to break the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Meghalaya Assembly by storming into the well of the house.” The MPA demanded an adjournment motion on ILP which was rejected by speaker AT Mondal.
Laloo also questioned the combined opposition Meghalaya People’s Forum intention of disrupting the House when the HSPDP legislator Ardent M Basaiawmoit had already submitted his resolution to discuss on the implementation of the Inner Line Permit in the state.
“I don’t understand these people (opposition members) why they still brought the adjournment motion on the same topic. That’s why they went and shouted there with an intention to force the Speaker to violate the rule.”
Laloo also accused the opposition of not being sincere enough and lack unity among themselves on the issue. He opined, “They are not sincere. Otherwise they should have decided among them whether to take up resolution or adjournment motion.”- By Our Reporter
