SHILLONG, DEC 15: Police have seized the school report cards of the four school students from the Mawkhli village sordar after he illegally withheld them just on the pretext that they had been “ostracized” along with their parents by the Dorbar Shnong.
“We have seized all the school annual report cards of the four children from the village sordar Blester Wahspeh,” a police officer said. Informing that a case under section 107 IPC has been registered against the village head, the officer said, “Investigation into the case is on.”
The action by the police is based on an FIR lodged by the CSWO.
The police, however, are yet to arrest the sordar for allegedly violating the human rights especially inflicting cruelty and also humiliating the innocent and young children in front of the entire school for no fault of theirs.
The children who faced the wrath of the dorbar shnong include — John Firstborn Nongri (class III), Michael Jackson Nongbri (class III), Daphi Banri Nongbri (class I) and Beautifully Nongbri (Nursery).
These children are students of a government LP School in Mawkhli village.
The children are siblings of Tomondaris Nongbri and Spolin Wahspeh, who were ostracized by the dorbar shnong on a flimsy pretext that they refused to allow a “forget-me-not” hedge to be removed from their compound during the cleaning drive in the village
Beside the untenable act of ostracizing the family on such a flimsy ground, the act of the sordar of publicly humiliating the small children in front of their school is to say the least outrages.
Two of the children were also supposed to receive awards from the school for doing well in their studies but the sordar ensured that the report cards of the two school kids were not given to them on the result day and instead forced the headmaster of the school to hand it over to him.
However, the annual report cards were handed over to the children only the next day.
The mother Tomondaris Nongbri informed that John Firstborn Nongri (class III) secured the first position and his brother Michael Jackson Nongbri (both of class III) got second position but rued that they missed the opportunity of being felicitated by the school just because of the sordar and the dorbar shnong.
Nongbri informed that Daphi Banri Nongbri (class I) and Beautifully Nongbri (Nursery) secured 9 and 16 positions.
When questioned the police officer however said, “Necessary action will be taken against him (Wahspeh) after the inquiry is completed.”
Mawkhli village sordar Blestar Wahspeh admitted that the action by the dorbar shnong towards the children was wrong. He told reporters, “I admit that we were wrong in holding back their results.”
According to the sordar, he had asked the school authority to withhold the report cards of the children till the time that the matter with their family is resolved. When questioned what right he had to make the children suffer, the sordar however could not respond.
Wahspeh also admitted that the dorbar shnong on October 24 had decided to ostracize the Nongbri family after Tomondaris Nongbri refused to allow removal of the hedge from her house during a cleaning drive held on October 18.
The sordar however denied the allegation that the dorbar shnong had also stop PDS supply to the family and wash his hands off from the allegation that he was behind Nongbri’s removal as an Anganwadi worker in the village.- By Our Reporter
