SHILLONG, JULY 17: The second Sohra Marathon, 2015 drew huge crowd as thousands of people took part on Friday which was flagged off by chief minister Mukul Sangma at Mawkdok. Sangma was among the many who participated in the marathon.
People from all walks of life, including the ministers, bureaucrats, officials, bankers, policemen, tourists, parents, children and persons with disabilities participated in the marathon that evoked stupendous response.
The events of the day included full marathon (42.2 km), half marathon (21.1 km), 10 km run and kids fun run. Music and cultural events added to the festive ambience around the venue and enthralled the visitors.
Besides the chief minister, minister for sports & youth affairs Zenith Sangma, minister for urban affairs M. Ampareen Lyngdoh, chief secretary PBO Warjri, principal secretary RV Suchiang, commissioner & secretary DP Wahlang and executive chairman of MBOSE EP Kharbhih were among many dignitaries who were also present during the event.
Later, prizes for the winners of the run in various categories were given away by the sports & youth affairs minister Zenith Sangma and other dignitaries and medals were also given to all the runners who completed the marathon in various categories.
The first three winners of the full marathon in the male category was:
Vikas Kumar from Delhi, Jomsingstar Ramsiej and Honton Rynjah,
The female category was:
Shyamilee Singh, Darishisha Iangjuh and Habari Warjri bagged the first three positions among the females.
The event was jointly organized by Sports & Youth Affairs and Art & Culture under the Chief Minister’s Youth Development Scheme along with sponsorship from many agencies including the State Bank of India.-By Our Reporter
