SHILLONG, JULY 6: The Border Security Force once again foiled the attempt of smugglers when it apprehended two notorious cattle carriers on International Border.
The BSF troops deployed at Lynghat, East Khasi Hills district observed some suspicious movement of smugglers with cattle near zero line. The alert BSF troops challenged the suspected smugglers.
The BSF party encircled the suspected area swiftly and apprehended two Indian notorious cattle carriers’ along with 14 cattle worth more than Rs 2 lakh while being smuggled from India to Bangladesh.
The apprehended persons have been identified as Kaldinesh Singh (18) and Rasto Tangsong (20), both are resident of Remai village under Pynursla in East Khasi Hills.
According to BSF officials, smugglers are continuously trying to smuggle cattle to Bangladesh for handsome amount of money.
Similarly, in three more incidents, the BSF troops deployed at Purakhasia, West Garo Hills district, Nayabazar, Lyanghat East Khasi Hills district also seized 41 more cattle worth Rs 6.5 Lakh while being smuggled to Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the BSF is seeking cooperation from local police as well as Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to enhance operation against such cattle smugglers so as to maintain the sanctity of the International Boundary.
The BSF has seized 196 Nos cattle and contraband items worth more than Rs. 36 Lac, while being smuggled out from India to Bangladesh on the International Border along Meghalaya during last week.
Apprehended smugglers and the seized items handed over to concerned department for further legal action.
