SHILLONG, MAY 31: The Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) today served a one month deadline to the residents of the Sweeper’s Colony at Them Iew Mawlong to submit documents to proof that they are residing in the area legally.
The general public notices were served to all the residents of the area by the officials of the Board here on Friday. The district administration has also promulgated section 144 CrPC in the area due to the exercise to prevent any law and order problem.
The exercise was based on the direction by the High Level Committee constituted by the state government to find a feasible solution for relocation of Sweeper’s Colony from Them Iew Mawlong.
“The residents of the Sweeper’s Colony are requested to come forward and furnish the information to the office of the SMB during working hours (10 am to 5 pm) from June 3 to July 3,” SMB chief executive officer SB Sohliya said in the notice.
He said the information is with regard to their possession of either piece of land building structure in Sweeper’s colony and the period of their occupation adding they are also requested to provide supporting documents if any for support of their claim of possession or residence.
According to him, the object of the collecting information as to the number of persons residing in Sweepers colony and also their duration of occupation of stay in Sweepers’ Colony is to prepare both long term and short term policy for resolving long and pending issue pertaining to Sweeper’s Colony.
