SHILLONG, JULY 10: The newly formed Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance (KHDA) in the KHADC has decided to field National People’s Party (NPP) member from Nongkrem HS Shylla for the post of chief executive member, the election of which will be tomorrow.
The decision was taken at a meeting held here on Tuesday, few hours after the PDF chairman Pynshngain N Syiem tendered his resignation letter as chief executive member of the Council before the emergent session.
The KHDA which is likely to form the new executive committee is having the support of 17 MDCs in the 29-member House. These include 5 members from the UDP, 4 each from the NPP and PDF, 3 HSPDP and 1 Independent.
“We have unanimously decided to project Shylla as our candidate for the CEM post. He will be filing his nominations tomorrow,” HSPDP MDC Samlin Malngiang, who is also cabinet minister in the MDA coalition government, told reporters after the meeting.
Asked, Shylla, who is also a former KHADC chief, said that the decision was based on protocol as him being the senior most from amongst the members in the KHDA.
Stating there is need to end corruption practices in the Council, he said that the dictatorial attitude by the CEM must also come to an end.
“The previous EC has not done anything on the building byelaws despite the state government had already decided that the MUDA building byelaws will not be applicable in non municipal areas,” he said.
Shylla said that the new executive committee to be formed will ensure that members of the Committee on Village Administration Bill will be reappointed.
