SHILLONG, NOV 22: Former minister Hispreaching Son Shylla is one among the four candidates who filed their nomination papers for the upcoming bye-elections to the KHADC on Tuesday.
Shylla, who is also a former KHADC chief executive member, is contesting from Nongkrem constituency on a UDP ticket against the HSPDP chief Ardent Basaiawmoit’s right hand man Hubert Ford Riang and ruling Congress candidate Lamborsing Nongrum.
His colleague in the party, Wankupar Syiemlieh also filed his nomination papers from Nongspung-Sohiong constituency. Though the ruling Congress has fielded home minister HDR Lyngdoh’s son Nathaneil Osbert Rymbai, the UDP candidate said that the fight will be targeted against the father (Lyngdoh).
Both were accompanied by party leaders and supporters during the filing of nomination papers at the office of the deputy commissioner of East Khasi Hills District here.
The others who filed their nomination papers includes Congress candidate Lamborsing Nongrum from Nongkrem constituency and Independent candidate Allowis Dohtdong from Laban-Mawprem constituency.
The bye-election was necessitated after seven KHADC and one JHADC MLAs resigned from the post of MDCs following the passage of the Prevention of Disqualification (Members of Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya) (Amendment) Act, 2015, which seeks to end holding of dual posts by the MLAs, last year.
The last date for filing of nomination papers is November 28 while the last date of withdrawal is on December 1.
The last date of finalization and publication of valid nominations and allocation of symbols will be on December 3. While the poll is fixed on December 13, counting will be held on December 16.
