SHILLONG, FEB 2: Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla has agreed to review the feasibility of setting up a sub-health centre in Hingaria, a border village with Bangladesh, after a delegation from Hingaria Dorbar Shnong met him.
The government had initially planned a sub-centre in Hingaria but shifted it to Mynkre due to land feasibility and population issues.
Shylla cited the nearby Huroi sub-centre, 3 kms away, serving Hingaria’s population below 3000.
However, considering Hingaria’s remote location and border proximity, Shylla assured a review. “We’ll find an amicable solution, following sub-centre criteria,” he told reporters on Monday.
The dorbar shnong urged reconsideration, citing public health risks and right to basic healthcare. They claim a land survey was done, but the scheme was transferred elsewhere citing insufficient land, which they deny.
Hingaria faces high maternal mortality and limited immunization due to delayed medical attention.
