BJP legislator from South Shillong Sanbor Shullai on Thursday said it is wrong and baseless on the part of the Congress leader Ronnie V Lyngdoh to say ‘I don’t speak and I don’t attend Assembly”
“Therefore, I request Ronnie to check the proceedings of the House (before making this statement),” Shullai told reporters.
The BJP leader said he did attend the just concluded budget session of the state Assembly for one week.
He also reminded the Congress leader that he along with other members of the House had spoken regarding the problems faced by the general public during Covid-19 pandemic, especially the poor and downtrodden, which do not have rice and essential commodities to feed their families.
“I have spoken these things in the House and I must congratulate the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for passing an order for sanctioning Rs 50 lakh to each MLA to enable him/her to support such families with essential commodities and financially,” he said.
Shullai said that he not only speaks in the Assembly but he is speaking everyday to various departments and even goes to Delhi to speak for benefits of the people and the state.
He recalled, “During a public rally organized by the HYC at Jaiaw students’ field, I had also declared that if Narendra Modi and BJP government are not going to exempt the implementation of the CAA from Sixth Schedule area, I am going to resign from the BJP.”
“Apart from this, I speak everyday to officers of different departments and even chief minister and deputy chief minister regarding the requirements and problems faced by people of my constituency, and all of them have been resolved through my personal intervention,” Shullai said.
He further pointed out that following his intervention, the defence ministry had agreed to give 25,000 sq ft land for construction of a road at Umshyrpi bridge.
“I speak with the commander and I speak till Delhi before defence minister Rajnath Singh where he have ordered his PS to speak to the higher ups of the Army that this proposal is for interest of the public and subsequently PWD department had paid a premium of Rs 1.69 lakh and now the work will start very soon,” he said.
Further, Shullai said that he had also raised his voice against implementation of the Uniform civil code (UCC).
“I have sent memorandum and appeals sto Narendra Modi andAmit Shah to exempt implementation of UCC from the Sixth Schedule area. I went to Delhi to speak,” he said. He also assured that he would continue to pursue the long pending demand for implementation of the inner line permit (ILP) and inclusion of Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution.
