Shortage of PDS sugar

SHILLONG, MAY 30: East Khasi hills deputy commissioner Sanjay Goyal has directed a magistrate to conduct an inquiry into the non supply of PDS sugar in parts of the district even as he said that non- availability of sugar for the last two months is because the quota lapsed since there was no more stock in the Food Corporation of India (FCI).

Goyal, however, assured that the district administration has taken up the matter with the state government to request the centre to revalidate the quota so that the lapse quantity can be lifted. He also said, “We have directed the FCI to immediately make available the stock at Shillong.”

The action has been taken up following complaints lodged by the general public.

Goyal also has directed a magistrate to conduct an enquiry into the complaints of non supply of the PDS commodities in parts of the district and to give report within a week time.

Regarding re-allocation and distribution of  LPG in certain localities by new agencies, Goyal said that the re-allocation  was done by the IOC based on the position of backlog in the state especially in Shillong.

Goyal said the existing agencies has expressed its inability given in writing to him that they cannot cater beyond a certain number. He said as Shillong is the only big city in north-east having backlog the step to reallocate the distribution to new agencies was done to clear the back log as well as for smooth supply of the LPG .

Goyal also informed that the office of the DC does not interfere in the market operations of the IOC but only ensures that the consumers get their refill in time without harassment and there is no hoarding of domestic LPG cylinders for black marketing.- By Our Reporter
