BANGALORE, APR 6 : Despite conceding an early goal, Shillong based Rangdajied United FC humbled Mumbai Tigers by 3-1 goals -1 in game number nine of the first leg of the 2nd division I-League final round held at Bangalore football stadium on Saturday.
With this win Rangdajied has collected four points from three outings the team has had so far.
In the very first minute of the game Rangdajied conceded a goal when NP Pardeep salvo from the danger arc found the back of the net, giving the Mumbai Tigers an early lead.
However, Mumbai Tigers joy was short lived as the Shillong boys took charge of the game and in the thirty-six minute Shin Hojun shot re-bounced from the bar and Babatunde Ayomide who was following the ball placed it into the net but much to the chagrin of the Shillong team referee Arun Pillai called it an offside denying Rangdajied to level the score.
But keeping up the tempo, the Shillong boys continued to play to their potential and came up with an equalizer in the forty second minutes of the game when Banshari Sunn shot from the thirty-five yard found the net.
In the fifty-one minute Abocha Singh, collecting Babatunde right flank shot, took a shot at the Mumbai Tigers goal and was bang on target giving Rangdajied the lead.
Not satisfied with a one goal lead, the Shillong team continued to dominate the game and its Korean striker Shin Hojun consolidated the team position in the eighty minutes by scoring the third goal from inside the box.
Rangdajied would have won by a bigger margin against the Mumbai Tigers if the six shots had not rebound hitting the bar, besides the couple of save by rival custodian Arup Debnath. One penalty was also disallowed by the referee in the second half when Mumbais defender handled the ball inside the box.
It was surprising to the spectators as well as the players when the referee gave four minutes injury time after the stipulated time as over even though stretcher was not called even once in the second half of the game.- By Suraj Joshi
