Shillong, Sept 7: Meghalaya deputy chief minister Rowell Lyngdoh ; who holds the Health and Family Welfare portfolio, informed the assembly Friday that the Shillong Medical College’s first batch will commence from 2016.
Lyngdoh said, “However, the proposal for setting up the Shillong Medical College is still in the bidding stage.”
The state government had approved the bidding document for the construction of the Shillong Medical College and hospital under PPP mode at the Reid Chest TB Hospital.
The estimated project cost for the construction of the college including 500 beds amounts to Rs 248 crore. The construction is expected to commence from 2013.
Lyngdoh said, “The land at RP Chest Hospital Shillong where the project is proposed to be constructed belongs to the health department”. He, however, informed that the RP Chest Hospital would be shifted to the new site at Mawdiangdiang.- By Our Reporter
