SHILLONG, MAY 25: Sherwood school of Tura secured as many as six positions in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) merit list with Subhadeep Manda topping the list securing 572 marks, Ricarldy Dkhar from Mawlai Presbyterian Secondary School, Shillong and Lapdianghun Nongkhlaw of Auxilium Girls, Higher Secondary School Shillong bagging the topped second and third positions respectively.
The total pass percentage in the SSLC examinations stood at 53.11 per cent which is 1.2 per cent less over the last year’s results at 54.31 per cent,
In the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC), the result of which was declared along with the SSLC results on Monday, the total pass percentage stood at 71.84 per cent, an increased by 3.71 per cent over last year.
In the HSSLC, Julian Lamborlem Roy Jyrwa, a student of St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong bagged the top position securing 425 marks, Avinash Thapa, also of St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong and Loyola Dkhar of St Edmund’s College (Higher Secondary Section), Shillong bagged the second and third position respectively.
Of the 45867 candidates who appeared in the SSLC examination held in 118 centers, 24360 were declared successful while a total of 21507 students were however detained.
In the HSSLC examination, out of 21,261 students who appeared, a total of15273 were declared successful.
The pass percentage of the female SSLC candidates is 76.73 per cent and male is only 79.29 per cent while, the female HSSLC pass percentage stood at 83.55 per cent while male was only 76.27 per cent.
An elated Julian Lamborlem Roy Jyrwa, an HSSLC topper said, “I am speechless and right now all I can say is that I am feeling like I am on top of the world.” He expressed his gratefulness to his parent, the principal and teachers of St Anthony’s for having been the great source of inspiration and motivation for him and all the students.
Nevertheless, Jyrwa also attribute his success to the competitiveness of his classmates. “Competition among us (friends) has been a major push for me to be where I am today,” he said.
Meanwhile, West Jaintia Hills district registered highest pass percentage with 76.29 per cent while South West Garo Hills district secured the lowest percentage of pass with 20.31 per cent in the SSLC examination.
In the HSSLC (Arts stream), Ri Bhoi district secured the highest percentage with 85.99 per cent while South Garo Hills district registered the lowest pass percentage with 50.39 per cent.
Meanwhile, as many as 10 SSLC candidates mostly from Garo Hills were debarred from appearing at the next SSLC examination, 2016, after they were expelled for adopting unfair means during the board examination.- By Our Reporter
