SHILLONG, JULY 28: BJP national chief Amit Shah, who is scheduled to visit the state next month will also be meeting sitting legislators from the different political parties which include the ruling Congress.
“Some of these legislators will be meeting our national president,” BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh told reporters after a meeting chaired by the party national coordinator Arvind Menon here on Friday.
Refusing to disclose the names of such sitting legislators, who are alleged to have sent feelers for joining the saffron party, he however said that the purpose may be to discuss their plan to associate with the party.
On the party’s preparation for the upcoming state elections slated to be held next year, Lyngdoh said that the matter will further be discussed with the BJP national general secretary in-charge elections Bhupendra Yadav next month.
Yadav will be accompanying Shah, who will be inaugurating the office building of the state BJP in the state’s capital, as part of his 110 days tour to all the states in the country which include states in the North East region.
Stating that earlier August 12 was finalized as the date for his (Shah) visit but it was postponed due to the just concluded presidential elections, Lyngdoh however said they are now expecting that the visit will be fixed between August 15 to 25.
According to him, the national president will ensure that the party organization in the state is going in the right direction and is also expected to visit some of the polling booths.
With regards to the Mission-40 launched in Meghalaya, the state president said that the organizational structure of the party at different level will be completed by the end of this month.
After this, he informed that the party will start the process of identifying the aspiring candidates for contesting the state Assembly elections and said – “We hope to field candidates from all the 60 seats.”
Earlier today, Arvind met the functionaries of the party’s state executive committee, district committees, mandal committees and polling booth committees as part of further strengthening the party in the state.
The national coordinator also conducted a workshop to inform and make the party workers aware about the 19 departments like good governance and centre-state coordination, policy research, political programs and meetings and others.
He also highlighted the 10 projects taken up by the party which also include district office construction project, office modernization, library, swatch bharat Abhiyan, and national membership.
Creation of more departments to accommodate more people for the development of the party was emphasized by Arvind during the meeting.
