TURA, FEB 17: Seven youth from Garo Hills emerged champions in the recently concluded 21st Kyorugi and 2nd Poomsae All Bodoland Taekwondo Championships 2014. The championships organised by the All Bodoland Taekwondo Association in collaboration with HELP, an ngo from Bongaigaon Assam was held at Bongaigaon Stadium, Assam from 3rd February to 5th February 2015.
Out of the twenty three youth who participated from the five districts of Garo hills seven emerged winners after winning in stiff competition against their opponents from Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim, Kalimpong, West Bengal, All Assam Taekwondo Association, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.
Amoljyoti Rongkho from North Garo hills bagged gold in the under 53 , Junior Cadet boys category while Agate Sangma from East Garo hills in the under 23 kg sub-junior boys and Preity Lohar from West Garo hills in the under 38 kg sub-junior girls bagged silver medals.
The bronze medals winner includes Oglick B Marak from North Garo hills in the under 58 kg Senior Boys, Gaurav Rana from West Garo hills in the under 33 kg Junior Cadet Boys, Adars Narzeri from West Garo hills in the under 40 kg Sub-Junior boys and Osmond T Sangma from East Garo hills in the Poomsae under 49 First Master category.
Meghalaya Taekwondo Association Vice President E K Marak 5th Dan Black Belt, Garo Hills Taekwondo Association, General Secretary Fr Anthonio Abong Marak and Treasurer Pratash Rai were among those who attended the championships as officials.- From Our Correspondent
