Shillong, Oct 5: The Meghalaya government decided to have a separate recruitment policy for the “Meghalaya Police Service (MPS)”.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma told reporters after the cabinet meeting Friday, “We have decided to have a separate recruitment policy for the MPS and the proposal has been approved by the cabinet.”
At present the both the Meghalaya Civil Service (MCS) and MPS examination is held as one by the MPSC and successful candidates can opt for one of them. Sangma informed that it was found that the first option the successful candidate gives is the MCS.
He said in the process the MPS posts that are lying vacant are not filled up. He also felt that the temperament and attitude required for the police organization is different from that required for the MCS.
Sangma said, “We need to have a separate recruitment policy for the MPS where certain aspects of physical efficiency are also required to be incorporated.” – By Our Reporter
