SHILLONG, SEPT 11: A delegation of the Seng Longkmie (women’s organization) of Nongmynsong met state home minister Roshan Warjri and expressed their resentment over the police attitude of being lopsided with arrested people.
Seng Longkmei vice president P Nongpluh told reporters after the meeting with Warjri on Wednesday, “We have expressed our strong opposition on the partial treatment by the police whenever they arrest anybody in the locality,”.
The allegation was made after the police failed to put the two non-indigenous people who were picked up from Nongmynsong inside the lock up.
According to the Nongpluh , whenever Khasi boys or KSU members were arrested police straight away pushed them inside the lockup. However, when the two non tribal boys were picked up, they were instead made to sit in a chair and were given good treatment by the police before they were taken to hospital, she complaint.
During the ongoing night road blockade sponsored by the ngos who are pressing for the implementation of the ILP in the state , police arrested two persons identified as Abay Das and Ricky Thapa on Tuesday and got a bottle filled with petrol from their possession.
Nongpluh said, “Such partial treatment will only aggravate the situation.” she asserted. She informed that the delegation urged Warjri to instruct the police that whenever they want to arrest youths in the locality they should take the Rangbah Shnong into confident in order to avoid random arrest” adding “Not every KSU member is a criminal.”
Nongpluh informed that Warjri assured the delegation that the matter would be examined and that she will ensure that such things do not recur.-By Our Reporter
