SHILLONG, SEPT 12: A seminar cum awareness programme on the topic “Risky Sexual behavior and the spread of HIV in the society” was organized by the Social Economic Life Department of the Sohiong Presbytery in collaboration with Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, Shillong at Sohiong Presbytery Seminar Hall, Shilliang Dongki, Sohiong recently.
Dr. S. Lyngdoh, Project Director of Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, Shillong highlighted the dangers of HIV and AIDS if uncheck especially among the youths can lead to other issues and problems such as health, financial, literacy and social life of the child, family and the society as a whole.
He also stressed the importance of educating a child about the dangers of early marriage and involving in risky behaviors such as early sex, taking drugs and other substance abuse that could cause harm to their life and becoming vulnerable to infectious disease like HIV and AIDS. He further stressed that helping a child to be discipline and to have a goal in life is the way to help them stay away from indulging in risky behavior and thus shaping their life for the better.
Moreover he call upon all organization, institutions and religious institutions alike to take up this issue and help fight and control the spread of HIV by the year 2020.
The seminar was chaired by Rev P W Shylla, the Moderator, Sohiong Presbytery where he stressed on the importance of healthy behavior and good lifestyle among the youth especially towards sexual behavior in the presence of students, teachers and the community members.
Other dignitaries present during the seminar were KS Kurbah, Secreatary SELD, Rev TW Jones Thabah, Executive Secretary, Sohiong Presbytery, Rev WS Jyrwa.
