Selsella by-poll likely in March

SHILLONG, JAN 17: The Election Commission of India is yet to take a call for holding the by-poll to the Selsella Assembly seat, which fell vacant following the passing away of sitting legislator Clement R Marak, last year.

“We are still waiting for the notification,” state chief electoral officer Frederick Roy Kharkongor told reporters on Thursday.

Asked, Kharkongor said the six months time will end on April 8 and going by the period by which the vacancy has to be filled up, the by-election may be held within the month of March.

The two-time Congress legislator Clement R Marak passed away on October 8, last year after he suffered cardiac arrest.

Meanwhile, the state is also gearing up to hold elections to the two district councils in Khasi and Jaintia Hills region slated to be held on February 27.
