SHILLONG, JAN 7: The state police have stepped up security in the state ahead of the protest called by the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) against the BJP-led NDA government’s move to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, East Khasi Hills District police chief Davis NR Marak said, “Definitely we will increase security cover all over the city and we will try to increase police presence in the form of patrolling and checking.”
He pointed out in the past it was seen that miscreants are taking advantage of the night and indulges in throwing petrol bombs and creates all kinds of mischiefs and said, “We are stepping up and will instruct our people to check on such anti-social elements.”
Asked, the SP said police will be looking out for miscreants who are trying to stop office goers and preventing business establishments from opening during the hours of the protest.
“If we catch them we will definitely book them. We will also take action against leaders who are giving such directions to them as well,” he said.
Stating that police will provide adequate security to ensure no untoward incident happen, the SP said police will also try to secure all government offices and other properties as well adding advisory to all government officials will also be issued requesting them to park their vehicles in secure locations especially at night time.
