Shillong, October 8: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma informed the assembly on Tuesday that a search committee has been appointed for the purpose of short listing names for the post of Chairman of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC).
“The search committee consists of the state chief secretary WMS Pariat as chairman, retired bureaucrat GP Wahlang as member secretary and MPR Lyngdoh as its member,” Sangma said in his reply during the question hour.
Earlier, UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh expressed concern over the absence of a full time chairman in the MPSC. He had said, “In the absence of a full time chairman interviews have been postponed which is a loss for the candidates.”
Sangma also informed that in the absence of a full time MPSC chairman its senior most member FB Sangma is presently fulfilling the role of the chairman
Earlier, the Government had appointed senior MPSC member WB Suchiang as the acting chairman but he retired in June last.
After the former MPSC chairman Ashok Kumar Tigidi retired in December last year, the government failed to appoint a full-fledged MPSC head resulting in delay in declaring of results of various examinations conducted by the commission.
At present the MPSC is only conducting written tests and the personal interviews are being withheld due to the absence a fulltime chairman.- By Our Reporter
