SHILLONG, NOV 21: The Supreme Court has issued a stay against a recent order of the Meghalaya High Court on issue related to the bank accounts of the Chandra Mohan Jha (CMJ) Foundation, a sponsoring body of the disbanded CMJ University.
In its order issued on Friday, a bench of the Apex Court, headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice NV Ramana said, “In the meantime, operation of the interim judgment and order on October 13, passed by the Meghalaya High Court, arising out of a criminal petition shall remain stayed.”
The order came while hearing the petition for special leave of appeal arising out of the impugned final judgment and order (dated October 13, 2015) filed by Chandra Mohan Jha, the chancellor of the CMJ University.
Jha had requested the Apex Court to allow him to file a lengthy list of dates and interim relief and office report. On this, the Court has also granted permission to the CMJ to file lengthy list of dates.
On October 13, the Meghalaya High Court has issued direction for the release of Rs 15.62 crore from the frozen amount of Rs 30.42 crore to the Chandra Mohan Jha (CMJ) Foundation.-By Our Reporter
