SHILLONG, DEC 21: East Khasi Hills district police distributed gifts to 17 underprivileged families from different parts of the city at a pre-Christmas celebration organized at Sadar police station here on Monday.
The gifts include blankets, cake and others were distributed by the East Khasi hills SP M Kharkrang.
The 17 families are from areas like Mawpat, Oakland Bivar Road, Keating Road, Mawlai and Polo.
Speaking on the occasion, Kharkrang said, “Christmas is not all about buying good clothes but it is a celebration where we can take the opportunity by extending help to one another.”
He said that the initiative taken up by the Sadar police station is also a part of bringing a cordial relationship between the police and the public. He said it is expected that this good example showed by the Sadar police station will be followed by other police stations to help such underprivileged families.
The function was also held in collaboration with the Batesi TV, which has help in identifying the underprivileged families.
Performing of Christmas songs and cutting of the cake were some of the highlights of the function.-By Our Reporter
