Shillong, Oct 7: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma today said “Golf” can be a means to promote Shillong as a tourist destination.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the IIM Shillong Golf Cup Season 5 Sunday organized by IIM Shillong in association with the Meghalaya Tourism, Sangma called the IIM a “strong partner” and said Meghalaya is lucky to have IIM which can be a partner for diverse purposes to promote Shillong as one of the most talked about destinations in the country.
Sangma said, “The potentiality of the State which revolves around natural resources needs to be realized because we must do justice to the people and this is one humble exercise which allows us to realize this potentiality.”
“Promoting golf is one of the ways of brand building for Shillong and the state and today’s tournament organized by IIM will go a long way in brand building Shillong and Meghalaya,” Sangma said even as he felt there is a need to take things beyond what we see today.
Sangma appealed to the corporate houses taking part in the tournament to go back to their respective home states and to tell the people about the beauty of Shillong and urged them to re-visit Shillong with their near and dear ones while reminding them that Meghalaya is known as one of the most beautiful hill stations in the world.
Sangma also called upon the corporate houses to forge partnerships with the government of Meghalaya to take advantage of the potential that the state has with regard to natural and human resources.
Others present at this closing ceremony of the IIM Golf Cup Season 5 were Deputy Chief Minister BM Lanong, Minister in charge of IT and Water Resources AL Hek, the Director General of Assam Rifles Ranbir Singh besides a host of other dignitaries from the corporate world.- By Our Reporter
